We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

what is wrong with people??? really a puppy out of a moving car
you do not deserve to have a pet. no respect for life
thats just down right mean and evil

Humans can truly be the olwest form of life. I swear a rock has more compassion than some people. You know, they put dogs down for less than this. I am the kind of person who would love to do the same thing to this person that he/she did to this poor baby, but I am not Judge nor Jury. Bless you Joey, I am praying for your speedy recovery and hope one day you have a family who truly loves you.

I wish the same fate on this hateful person whom inflicted this senseless act on the pup.
My wish is that joey will recover and be adopted by some loving family.

I believe in Karma. To who ever did this, just remember "what comes around goes around". I don't know how you can live with yourself. By the way, I also believe in Hell--and you just might get the chance to visit!!!

Living in the country in Indiana, you would be surprised how often this happens. Usually cats/kittens. I found one of our dogs by a railroad crossing. She was more than likely dumped. Her leg was a mess!! Finally getting better with her fear of riding in a car. :) Best of luck in your search! But money would be better spent on a campain to educated the uneducated to take to shelters instead of tossing!!

Players and love to you Joey. At such a young age you have already been through so much. I play that you find a great home with kids to play with and that the only worry you have is the safety of your new family.

I would love to have the name and address of the person who threw him from the car. He needs a little REDNECK justice served up COLD. Joey my friend we are all behind you. God Bless you and many of us would love to have you in our homes and would LOVE you and care for you. Get well soon!! For the people who did this WATCH OUT!!

This is so appalling, these are not human beings that do such actions. We need to find this person and do the same to him/her. These are the same type that would do the same to humans.

Recover fast & heal well little Joey. Such a sweet face. God speed to all of you with the different SPCA/ASPCA locations in finding the person responsible for this. They should do jail time, and have to perform a civil service earning the cost of Joey's expenses in entirety. Shame on this person - you don't deserve to be in the presence of animals
