We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

May god bless you Joey. My rescued girl was last locked in a closet with wire around her muzzle for five day and found barely alive. Through the love and care of others she has made it and you will to. I am loud that my donations will help you. Peace love and long life Joey!

I am praying for Joey. And that the person responsible be caught. Best case scenario is that the person responsible be charged and convicted, with a punishment of being thrown without clothes or protection from a semi during winter months in the midwest at approx 120 mph, and left on the side of the road. THANK YOU!

Mary

I hope that the animals that did this to this little puppy are found and punished. Joey is just a baby!!! You could have just taken him to the shelter rather than hurting him even more!! Shame, shame on you!!!

This is horrible - there are shelters to bring any animal not wanted - hope whomever threw Joey out of a car window - gets what they deserve! Joey, stay strong and hope you feel better, once you get back to feeling good, I know a great family will take you home and give you all the love in the world.

Poor, little baby. I'm feel just like some of the others who have posted comments about what happened to Joey, totally, unfathomable, and brutually cruel! I simply do not understand how human beings, who have God in them, could be so cruel to these beautiful little babies who only wants to love us. These people have obviously lost their Godliness. All we can do is pray for them that they find it again. Hearing brutal stories like these just break my heart over and over again! It truly does my heart good when I heart kind, compassionate animals stories. Thank God, there are those of us who love God's beautiful little animals and they in turn love us. God bless you Joey and you will find a good home where you will receive abundant amounts of love!!! You are always in my prayers.

What is wrong with people? How could they do this do a poor innocent animal? If they did not want the dog they had so many other choices, bring the poor dog to a vet, shelter, to throw away as garbage? SICK and MEAN person!!!! I hope they catch this person and they get what they deserve! What is happening to this world we live in?

I hope this poor baby can heal up. That's such a serious injury! Whoever did this to him is a dangerous monster who could hurt anyone - human or animal - next. It's important to everyone's safety that we catch this person.

Kristen

Hope whoever did this burns in HELL! These aren't human beings!

Dear little Joey. I am sending you all my love and blessings you dear little soul. The "human" who did this to you is a tragic being who must have a lot of self-hate. No one with a loving heart would ever do what was done to you. My gratitude to the person who found you and all the incredible compassionate people who care and are helping you.
