We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

You hang in there little fella-- your place is still waiting for you in heaven. The place in HELL is for the human--

I can't believe how awful some people are. They are a sad excuse for a human being. They don't deserve the freedom of walking the streets. Stay strong little guy...we are all praying for you! I'm really hoping they are caught and justice is served! This little guy at least deserves that.

My prayers are with Joey and to bring to justice the cruel person that did this to this sweet dog!!

People make me sick. How could you do such a thing to a defenseless animal. And the sad part is if they find the person they won't get the smae charges if the puppy was a person. If you can do this to an animal you can just as easily do this to a person. The charges should be the same. Karma will catch up with them one way or another. You can count on that.

"OMG" how can someone be that cruel!! I agree why didn't they take this puppoy to an animal rescue site if they could not care for the animal. What is wrong with our society today were we think so little of life even if it is an animal they feel pain, hunger and sadness just as human beings. God Bless Joey for a speedy recovery. Please find this awful person who did this and put them in jail forever!!!!!!

I hope that this cruel evil thing that did this to Joey is caught, then I suggest that he/she/they are thown out of a train going over a low bridge so that he/she/they suffer as much as Joey has. They are wastes of oxygen!!!

I am so outraged that someone could be so cruel to a helpless animal. Example of someone that should never own a pet of any kind!! Adopting my dog was the best thing that ever happened to me and he knows how much he is loved. Best wishes to this little guy... I hope he recovers and gets taken in by someone who truley deserves him...
