We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

I believe murderers and animal abuses are the sorriest people our world has to offer. Thank you for the ASPCA's and shelters

People make me sick!! Lots of hugs and prayers and get well wishes to you, Joey! I hope they find the sick b@stards who would do this to an innocent animal. Disgusting.

So sad this is so heartbreaking. How can people treat an animal so horrible. What do animals do to us? All they want is someone to love them and take care of them. My husband and I have our dog he's so spoiled rotten. We love him so much he's our child. People that are so cruel shouldn't ever be able to be around any animal, never the less own one. I do hope there's JUSTICE for this little guy. The people who done this I hope they are found. We need to put a STOP TO ANIMAL CRUELTY.

Joey, hang in there I know you are a fighter and will give unconditional love to your new family. You deserve only the best.

hope they catch the creep and throw the book at them. Laws need to be as strict on animal abuse as on child and elderly abuse. It is our job as a society to protect those that cant protect themselves and that includes animals

I just can't understand how people can be so cruel to their pets. Dogs are so loving and have no understanding of why their owners choose to abuse them. God bless you, Joey. I hope you get better soon and find a home with people who will love you like a part of the family.

I will never understand how people can be so cruel. Some of my friends tell me it's a good thing I don't understand. I don't expect everyone to be an animal lover, but I expect no one to be an animal hater. I'm a firm believer in an eye for an eye! Get well soon little Joey.
