In March 2013, Eriny Y. decided to drop by the ASPCA Adoption Center in Manhattan to peruse the adoptable animals. That’s when she met a special black-and-white kitty named Hamper, since renamed Lucy, and the two became inseparable. She shared the following story with us:

When I first saw Lucy at the Adoption Center, I asked if I could meet her because I thought her lazy eyes were adorable. The moment her cage opened, she started licking my fingers and purring. I knew I had to have her. I was hooked! She came home with me, and with a bit of time, she began to trust me.

Eventually, she started to curl up in bed with me and fall asleep as I scratched her head. She now insists on sleeping with me every night! She also loves her kitty treats and her catnip toys.

Whenever I leave the room, Lucy meows until I come back. At the end of the day, when I come home from work, she meows as though she is telling me about her day.

I love sharing my home with my adorable companion, and she has enriched my life in so many ways. I'm so thankful I decided to take that trip to the ASPCA on the off chance I might find a new friend.

Lucy has adjusted very well, and she makes me so happy to come home every day. Thank you so much, ASPCA!

Awwww! There's nothing like being selected by your fur purson!

Thank you for the beautiful story. I also have adopted a black and white tuxedo kitty. I found him on my way to work on a nasty, rainy, dreary day. He was on the side of the road with two huge dogs out in yard with electric fence baking at him. He was ready to run into the road and get run over by a big truck. I pulled over and he ran to me. He only weighed 1.6 Lbs. He was full if fleas, sleepies in his eyes, sneezing with an upper respiratory infection. Long story short he is my 6 1/2 yr old Boxer's best buddy and he is wonderful. He is mischievous but so lovable. We had to cat proof our house by putting lots of things away but he is worth it. He now weighs 12 Lbs. I found him Sept. 22. His name Blacktop Harry. Blacktop because that is where I found him and he is magical and mysterious
like Harry Houdini. Black and white cats rule. ;-)

Your story brought tears for 2 reasons...joy for you and Lucy, as you have been blessed w/ each other; and Lucy is almost a twin for my Dizzy, who crossed Rainbow Bridge March this year. Dizzy was a special needs girl, who I found as she literally crossed my path when she wobbled in front of my truck. My vet told me she had a neurological imbalance from in-breeding, and would always be unsteady. She joined my other 4 rescued kitties, and was the happiest cat in the house. Dizzy Mon Kitty gave us 6 years of unconditional love, laughter, and the light of life. Lucy will share those gifts with you also.

She looks just like my tuxedo cat named Boy Cat. He's a snuggle buddy too.

It definitely is true that animals can make humans happy, healthy and wealthy. I
am a good example. If you are a humble, trustworthy, and very clean human
(because animals have a keen sense of smell), the animal will give you all the love
and care you will ever need. They will also provide you with a good education into
the intelligence of their species if you allow them, simply by giving them nothing
but love, peace and happiness by letting them just be, and thru a sense of
clairvoyancy, empathy, and trust you will learn much and be in good health.

You made my day!!!! I love to hear stories like this one! I just lost my Lucy, a beautiful lemon beagle! She was the love my life!!! What a sweetheart, I miss her so! Enjoy Lucy while you have her!

It always amazes me that people will use any avenue they can to make money. Shame on them. This is about animals and I wouldn't give the money mongers the time of day.

Christine

In fact their comments should be taken off this website.

Awwwww how nice!

Great story, they always are. Anytime a animal in need and a human can become friends and help each other be happier is a great thing. Congratulations to all who have adopted a furry friend. It is a great moment in both your lives.
