ASPCA Arrests Brooklyn Woman over Starved Chihuahua

We’ve wanted to tell you about Vampiro for some time, and you won’t believe what he’s been through. In January, ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Agents responded to a call from NYC Animal Care & Control about a six-year-old Chihuahua who had been abandoned in a pet store.

The dog, Vampiro, was just skin and bones. At the ASPCA Animal Hospital, veterinarians found Vampiro to be emaciated, dehydrated and suffering from an untreated skin ailment, all caused by prolonged inadequate nutrition. He was also found to be blind. Our vets gave Vampiro IV fluids, medication, water and a balanced diet right away.

Meanwhile, AC&C told us that Vampiro had been adopted in 2006 by Brooklyn resident Venus Laventure, 50. On February 25, the ASPCA arrested Laventure. She was charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. If convicted, she faces up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. She is due in court on May 13.

After a few months at the ASPCA, Vampiro is doing much better. In fact, he’ll soon be made available for adoption—and his future family is in for a treat! Vampiro is a sweetheart who loves to give doggie kisses.

I would love to adopt him and give him a home where he would never need to worry about food or being abandoned ever again. And also a sister and brother chihuahua to take care of him as well.

I hope this F***ng bitch who starved this poor dog will die of suffer and die of cancer. I pray that includes his family and children. You BITCH, how could you!!!!!!

$1, 000 is nothing! She should do time!

Laws need to change to be harsher for people who do this. If you harm an animal, the maximum sentence is a fine and 5 years max I believe. It should be longer, I would protect my animals with my life. My kitties are my babies, seeing this is so sad. TO think that poor baby had to starve almost to death. I hope that woman gets time, I hope she can never have animals, I hope one day she goes hungry. It is just so upsetting that these people don't even care, how could she look at him and think that was ok? I hope this little doggy gets the best future he could have, and his life is now filled with love and treats.

Its terrible that anyone would do this. But to be honest im glad they left it at a place where someone would care for it. most people would have just let it die. or killed it themselves. its better this way. honestly its very likely it belonged to somone who wanted to care for it and then couldnt. Thats possible but it was just plane neglect then yea even worse.

The person who adopted this dog should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and NEVER allowed to adopt or own a pet again!! How cruel to starve this little guy! I hope she gets the same fate one day!!

michelle

$1000 IS NOT ENOUGH!!!!!!!!! THIS WOMAN SHOULD BE STARVED AND DEHYDRATED UNTIL SHE LOOKS LIKE THAT.

Linda Grabenske

im glad the woman was charged but the penalty is not near enough she should get 2 years in jail for each count abondonment , neglect , abuse , cruelty and attempted murder of an animal , if punishment was harsher there would be less cruelty , but thankyou ASPCA for being there for this baby
