ASPCA Arrests Brooklyn Woman over Starved Chihuahua

We’ve wanted to tell you about Vampiro for some time, and you won’t believe what he’s been through. In January, ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Agents responded to a call from NYC Animal Care & Control about a six-year-old Chihuahua who had been abandoned in a pet store.

The dog, Vampiro, was just skin and bones. At the ASPCA Animal Hospital, veterinarians found Vampiro to be emaciated, dehydrated and suffering from an untreated skin ailment, all caused by prolonged inadequate nutrition. He was also found to be blind. Our vets gave Vampiro IV fluids, medication, water and a balanced diet right away.

Meanwhile, AC&C told us that Vampiro had been adopted in 2006 by Brooklyn resident Venus Laventure, 50. On February 25, the ASPCA arrested Laventure. She was charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. If convicted, she faces up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. She is due in court on May 13.

After a few months at the ASPCA, Vampiro is doing much better. In fact, he’ll soon be made available for adoption—and his future family is in for a treat! Vampiro is a sweetheart who loves to give doggie kisses.

Very sad as Chihuahua's really are such a people dependant breed. They will flourish with the right owner while the wrong one can so easily destroy the spirit in these dependant little dogs. :(

damn I can't believe they couldn't find one ounce of freaking food to feed this poor baby...........put that bitch in a cell and let her starve. sometimes I hate people.

Chris

I hope she slits her wrists or hangs herself.

We have some holes ( solitary confinment) in the ground in our old territorial prison in Yuma, Arizona that she could do her sentence in!

As far as I am concerned, there is a special place in hell for those who abuse animals. Looking at this precious dog, I can't help but cry. Thank you for saving one of God's most wonderful, faithful creatures.

I think the owner should serve more that just a year in jail, plus a fine. This poor little dog almost lost his life and that's all his owner gets. What justice is this.

I know this is wrong but I would love for this to happen to the people that do this to animals and see how they would like it, see how fun it is to want food or water or love, sick people, I hope you get what is coming to you

Find a wait to get him to Gainesville, Fl and I will take him. Bless his baby heart. I have a 6 pound min pin who would love to play with him!

They need to give her a year in jail not a just a fine to pay instead. This is a crime and they have souls with feelings too!!!!!!!!! If more people where put in jail and find an enourmous amount, this might stop. Keep reporting these things.
