ASPCA Arrests Brooklyn Woman over Starved Chihuahua

We’ve wanted to tell you about Vampiro for some time, and you won’t believe what he’s been through. In January, ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Agents responded to a call from NYC Animal Care & Control about a six-year-old Chihuahua who had been abandoned in a pet store.

The dog, Vampiro, was just skin and bones. At the ASPCA Animal Hospital, veterinarians found Vampiro to be emaciated, dehydrated and suffering from an untreated skin ailment, all caused by prolonged inadequate nutrition. He was also found to be blind. Our vets gave Vampiro IV fluids, medication, water and a balanced diet right away.

Meanwhile, AC&C told us that Vampiro had been adopted in 2006 by Brooklyn resident Venus Laventure, 50. On February 25, the ASPCA arrested Laventure. She was charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. If convicted, she faces up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. She is due in court on May 13.

After a few months at the ASPCA, Vampiro is doing much better. In fact, he’ll soon be made available for adoption—and his future family is in for a treat! Vampiro is a sweetheart who loves to give doggie kisses.

God bless your organization that you were able to aid Vampiro. It's so sad that people do things like this, it seems to me that the deterant to doing such isn't powerful enough. Bless the beasts and the children,as the lord is watching! Thank you for all you do for these poor unfortunate animals. <3

Hope they starve her in jail like she did the dog. Judging by her first name I think she could lose a few pounds anyway.

this is just horrible, why are there so many animal abusers??? If you can not feed it, take care like they should be, then WHY do you people adopt them or just get them??? this is insane...& people that abuse animals, mentally are just stupid, no morals, idiots. They dont realize they are animals too, but of the worse kind. We are all GOD's animals & those who disobey, torture, kill will PAY dearly one day by The LORD!!

I did not read the blog. But just looking at it reminds me of a pet we lost earlier this year. The dogs look sick. It is sometimes hard to tell abuse apart from illness. I am not saying they are sick, but they look it. Abuse can cause illness and death, however i feel sorry for anyone acused of abuse when their pet is just sick and nothing can be done. I know people say just put a sick dying animal down, but i am against euthanizing animals. Its unnatural and unethical. It is nicer to just make an animal comfortable and try to heal the sick rather than just giving up and playing God.

They should give harsher punishments for animal abuses.
