ASPCA Arrests Brooklyn Woman over Starved Chihuahua

We’ve wanted to tell you about Vampiro for some time, and you won’t believe what he’s been through. In January, ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Agents responded to a call from NYC Animal Care & Control about a six-year-old Chihuahua who had been abandoned in a pet store.

The dog, Vampiro, was just skin and bones. At the ASPCA Animal Hospital, veterinarians found Vampiro to be emaciated, dehydrated and suffering from an untreated skin ailment, all caused by prolonged inadequate nutrition. He was also found to be blind. Our vets gave Vampiro IV fluids, medication, water and a balanced diet right away.

Meanwhile, AC&C told us that Vampiro had been adopted in 2006 by Brooklyn resident Venus Laventure, 50. On February 25, the ASPCA arrested Laventure. She was charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. If convicted, she faces up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. She is due in court on May 13.

After a few months at the ASPCA, Vampiro is doing much better. In fact, he’ll soon be made available for adoption—and his future family is in for a treat! Vampiro is a sweetheart who loves to give doggie kisses.

I hate to hear things like that. People who treat animals like that should be confined to a cell and limited to food like they did that animal, and they should get more than 1 year.

1 Year or $1,000 Screw that I say lock her in a store and let her suffer just as she did to the dog.. or better to prevent her from doing this again and to send a message to other animal abuser I say we Euthanize her.. Its not like she has anything to contribute to society.

they need to treat her like she treated her poor dog.i hope she gets the max. I hope they lock her up in county jail for 1 year so she can see how it feels to be treated like an unloved animal.but I know they wont make her do the year they will give her a fine and slap her on the wrist. its sad poor dog thank god the dog Is doing better now

I hope she gets the maximum sentence, what is wrong with people today, simply heartless. I don't know how they sleep at night!!!!!!!!

$1000 fine is a joke. She should do time and pay $70,000 to the ASPCA &10,000 a year fir every year she had that poor baby.

I totally agree that anyone that is responsible for anything like this should serve time....and make it impossible to own another animal.....

Allison Murphy

I hope she does time. Misdemeaners are not enough to stop these people. It should be a felony charge!!

don't know how you tracked her down, but i'm glad you did. too many people get away with animal cruelty...and frankly, the laws against it are not strong enough.

Thank God someone helped this poor baby. Hope the person charged gets prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Maybe she should be locked up in a cage with no food.

Thank God they found this little fellow, what is wrong with humans that they have no compassion for little creature's that give us so much love and joy...I have three cat's and I would live in my car if I had to they are like my kid's.
