ASPCA Arrests Brooklyn Woman over Starved Chihuahua

We’ve wanted to tell you about Vampiro for some time, and you won’t believe what he’s been through. In January, ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Agents responded to a call from NYC Animal Care & Control about a six-year-old Chihuahua who had been abandoned in a pet store.

The dog, Vampiro, was just skin and bones. At the ASPCA Animal Hospital, veterinarians found Vampiro to be emaciated, dehydrated and suffering from an untreated skin ailment, all caused by prolonged inadequate nutrition. He was also found to be blind. Our vets gave Vampiro IV fluids, medication, water and a balanced diet right away.

Meanwhile, AC&C told us that Vampiro had been adopted in 2006 by Brooklyn resident Venus Laventure, 50. On February 25, the ASPCA arrested Laventure. She was charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. If convicted, she faces up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. She is due in court on May 13.

After a few months at the ASPCA, Vampiro is doing much better. In fact, he’ll soon be made available for adoption—and his future family is in for a treat! Vampiro is a sweetheart who loves to give doggie kisses.

This is Horrible!!! So Sad that someone would do such a cruel thing to one of God's creatures. I say an eye for an eye! Hope she atleast does time and that isn't enough!!! GGRRRR

Thanks you all! I'm brazilian and have been watching the TV show in Animal Planet. This is how I've found you! Unfortunately, we don't have a special police to fight against animal cruelty here. I hope to visit you when I go to the USA.
Vampire, you're adorable!!!!

People like this make me sick!! And to only be charged with a $1000 fine is ridiculous! It should be much higher! I agree with the others, that woman should do time!! A lot of it! So should the rest of these horrible people who treat animals like this. I'm so glad that someone found this poor lil guy and managed to save him and he's doing so much better! I hope he gets a fur-ever family who loves him and spoils him rotten!! He deserves what every being on the planet deserves...to live a happy life full of love!!

OMG!!! $1,000 and/or one year in prison! Seriously?!?!?! That's not punishment enough!

This is why we must fight for harsher penalties against animal abuse! Laws are not adequate. Abusers need to do mandatory jail time and steep fines!

K

a yr?? $1,000?? really??

Rose

I hope this pup gets a loving home. The former owner should be locked up and starved, then burn in hell.

That is part of the problem this country has....UP TO 1 year in jail....and/or $1000 fine....that's all!!! This crazy BITCH needs to do a minimum of 5-10 years of jail time and then when she gets out should have to pay a VERY LARGE fine....and mandatory community service in a no kill shelter!!! If this country can start imposing very stiff fines and penalties, maybe....just maybe...someone would feel a little less likely to treat one of God's creatures so cruelly!!!

When will he be available for adoption. I live in Texas but will be in NY from June 7th till June 14th. I'd love to take him home with me. And his blindness is NO problem as I just had my dog (a 17 year old blind Chihuahua) put to sleep on April 1st. We are flying so all I need is his shot records and a vet certificate that is less than a week old.

Are you kidding me, how much does it cost to feed this poor little thing, humans, never fail to let me know how awful they are, should be locked up and starved herself!! I bet shes not starved!!!????? Pic please! Sick bitch!
