On Tuesday, the ASPCA arrested Queens resident Crystal Lashley, 18, for allegedly neglecting her six-year-old German Shepherd mix, Briana.

ASPCA Agents found Briana tethered to a tree outside a home on August 21. She’d been neglected so long that her collar had become embedded in her neck, causing a deeply painful wound.

Lashley agreed to surrender her dog to the Agents, who took Briana straight to the ASPCA Animal Hospital for treatment and evaluation.

In addition to her neck wound, ASPCA veterinarians found Briana to be dehydrated, underweight and infested with fleas. Briana is continuing to receive treatment for these issues and is recovering at the hospital.

When she’s made a full recovery, this resilient dog will be available for adoption—we can’t wait for her to experience a real loving family.

Lashley was charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. If convicted, she faces up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

If you suspect you’ve witnessed animal cruelty, please report it. It saves lives like Briana’s.

That woman needs life in prison, cold cell, dark cell, no tv, no books just a cement cell and no mattress.

That woman should be charged with a felon, not a misdeanor. Too light a sentence. Stricter penalties for animal abuse!!!!!!

I so wish there was a way to make these people suffer like they do their animals....no food, no water, other things....but most of all, I wish there was a way they could be followed and never, under any circumstances be allowed to own a pet again!! They should also have their pics posted in public, and have to do public service of any kind especially, involving pets.

Thank god Briana was rescued..thank you to whoever you are.Now tie this stupid ignorant bitch to a tree and leave her with no water or food..Let's see how she likes it.Hopefully she'll be convicted and never own another dog her whole useless life.We need harsher penalties!!!!!!

A year? All she gets is a year? Who pays for the vet treatment the dog is getting? Who pays for the food and water the dog is getting? A YEAR? $1000 FINE?
When will animals be just as important as humans? And when will people spend ENOUGH time in jail for harming animals????
This is DISGUSTING and she WILL DO IT AGAIN!

JANET

SHE SHOULD BE TIED TO THE TREE WITH A COLLAR THAT DOES NOT FIT. AND ONE YEAR IN JAIL IS NOT ENOUGH TIME AT LEAST A COUPLE OF YEARS AND 5 THOUSAND DOLLAR FINE.

There has to be much harsher penalties for doing this to a dog. $1000.00 fine for abusing a beautiful dog for 5 and a half years? Give me a break. We need to stop looking at dogs as property and start looking at them as much more than that.

What a shame..and if convicted, only getting a year..Should get longer than that..and a heftier fine..she should pay for the treatment that her poor dog has had to receive in order for her to heal and be placed in a better, more loving home..Wonder how this girl would like it if that was done to her by her parents..People like this make me sick.

Really!? A misdemeanor!? This dog has been suffering for a very long time, and this animal is getting a misdemeanor, the punishment should fit the injustice, not a slap on the wrist

We really do need tougher animal cruelty penalties. If this woman can do this to a helpless animal, how would she treat a baby? Cruelty is Cruelty and we need to put an end to it with harsher penalties, stiffer fines and longer jail sentances.
