ASPCA Dispatches Forensics Team to Assist in Record-Breaking Puppy Mill Raid

Fighting Cruelty Update: The ASPCA is presently assisting in Tennessee’s largest-ever puppy mill raid, lending our special forensic cruelty investigation team and Mobile Animal CSI Unit to assist in the collection of evidence.

The 747 animals discovered in the raid, which began last Wednesday, were housed in various enclosures among the property’s 92 acres of hilly and rocky terrain known as Pine Bluff Kennels in Lyles, TN. The farm’s owners could face criminal charges.

“This is by far one of the worst situations I have ever seen,” says the ASPCA’s Dr. Melinda Merck, the nation’s premier forensic veterinarian and animal CSI. “Animals are in extreme cases of neglect and illness, and some are dead. The overcrowding, unsanitary conditions, flea and parasite infestation, as well as the stress of competing for food and coping with untreated illnesses, are severe.”

Animals in critical condition were examined immediately on the ASPCA’s CSI unit. To learn more about the raid, please read our complete press release. And stay tuned to ASPCA News Alert, for continuing coverage of the situation.

I can't believe people could do such a disgraceful, awful, thing like this. My wish is that they are charged to the fullest extent of the law. I will pray for the puppies. This type of story makes me physically sick.

Thanks for listening.

I applaud the ASPCA for helping out with this admirable cause. Raiding puppy mills brings publicity to a horrendous industry that is often unregulated and unscrupulous.

However, until people decide to STOP BUYING DOGS this industry will exist. And no matter how many raids of puppy mills there are, the industry will still thrive as long as there is a market for puppies.

Please check out www.stoppuppymills.org for more information on what you can do to battle this horrible industry and cut off the money stream to these breeders.

And, most importantly, get your next furry family member from a shelter or a rescue, and not a store. Three to four MILLION dogs and cats are euthanized every year because most owners would rather buy than adopt. These are good animals, healthy, hearty, lovable, and they are only put down because of size constraints.

Spread the message: Adopt don't buy

Help break the cycle of disreputable breeders and overcrowded shelters.

I just wish the punishment for the people that do these things becomes more and more harsh. If the people that run pupp mills only have to pay small fines or face minimal time in jail, then the punishment will not prevent this from happening.

so greatful to the aspca for being involved in this. It makes me feel good that my monthly guardian contributions go towards the new er truck for the animals to help them. I wish I could give more to help these poor unfortunate creatures that are the victims of heartless bastards. I really feel they should be punished greater than current laws allow. It is far worse to hurt an animal than a person in my opinion. Much stricter punishments are needed...
