Join ASPCA Forensic Vet for a LIVE CHAT -- TODAY!!
How does a forensic vet gather evidence in an animal cruelty case? What is it like to testify at an animal cruelty hearing?
What tools do you use to do your job?
Because of TV shows like CSI and Law and Order, real-life jurors expect forensic science to back up all the evidence presented to them—and animal cruelty cases are no exception. These days, jurors don’t just want any old evidence—they want forensic evidence.
“It’s because of ‘the CSI effect,’” says ASPCA Forensic Veterinarian, Dr. Melinda Merck, who literally wrote the book on using science in investigating animal cruelty. Merck, who often testifies as a forensic veterinary expert for animal cruelty cases around the country—including animal hoarding, dog fighting and animal torture—has also recently authored the textbook Veterinary Forensics: Animal Cruelty Investigations.
She'll join us for a live online chat in our brand-new ASPCA Online Community today, Friday, October 26, from noon to 2:00 P.M. EST, to answer your toughest questions on veterinary forensics.

i am a 10 year old that loves dogs very much but my mom hates dogs i study them every day they are so interesting but i cant get one hhhheeelppppp me i know this is not the question for a vet but still any comments
A friend of mine recently had a dog taken from her hometown and 400 miles away. She claimed the dog was a stray without a collar or tag which is completly untrue. She did not contact the human society or any businesses around the area, this is fact with proof!!She also wanted 450 dollars for the dog after another person alerted the owners of the dogs where abouts. Even after she knew who the owners she was still trying to adopt the dog out for $125 and proceed have surgery on the dog even after the owners had warned of seizures and she was to tell the vet to contact the dogs vet. NEVER HAPPENED!!! This lady LYNN is taking dogs out of TN and selling them in MD. She has a rescue program, which is a scam!! She needs to be stopped!!!!!!! And it is evidently happening across the country. Since she feels that people in TN are of another breed and have no sense!! well guess what she found out different this time. THis dog was able to make it back to her home after her 800 mile trip. But how many haven't been so fortunate. Please put a stop to this! and protect you animals.
