ASPCA Responds to Vick Plea
“Though dog fighting has been prevalent in this country for more than a century, it was only towards the end of the 20th century that it started to be regarded as a crime in the eyes of the law,” said ASPCA President & CEO Ed Sayres, “which makes the strong federal investigation of this case all the more remarkable.
A little more than one month after Michael Vick and three other co-defendants pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities (“Travel Act”), and to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture, in violation of federal law, they have all reversed their pleas, with Vick being the last to follow suit—a stunning reversal of events.
The ASPCA has been assisting in the federal investigation of this case; at this time it still cannot offer any additional details in order to protect the integrity of this investigation and the ongoing criminal process.

Do you really think 5 years is a good punishment?? That is a drop in the bucket. What kind of a lesson is that??
Vick and his buddies (and anyone in the "Sport") needs to be locked up and the key thrown away, not feed, and left in a cell to feed on each other - improvise their own form of dogfighting for survival. He's quilty, he knows it, needs to be severly punished for it and deserves it!
QUILTY, QUILTY QUILTY!!!!!!!!
NO FOOOTBALL, NO PAY, NO NFL AND AT LEAST 5 YEARS IN JAIL!
I feel that Vick should not get off with 16 to 24 months. He should have to go to jail for 5yrs. The Federal Gov. should Not let him and his friend off that easy for what he did to those dogs. He should Never be able to play football again.......
May he rot in hell...
Convict, comvict Vick! I know what the full extent of the law is for this crime, but it should be more severe. So he pleaded guilty, saved tax payers time and money. How generous of him! Now, what would be most appropriate for him is to support the aminal shelters in the state where he committed this crime against helpless aminals. He not only should be subjected to financially support them, but after his sentence of confinement, he should be made to give his time to the shelters for as long as he did this horrid crime to the pit bulls. Set the example of no crime will go unpunished.
This man is trash and has no decency or morals. There is something wrong with a person who can intentionally be cruel to an animal. I would never support anything this man was involved in.
Vick IS Sick will be on my back windshield tomorrow! What a pansie lawyer "uh he was cornered" he was Caught I agree with roxie QUILTY, QUILTY, QUILTY MURDERER! NO FOOTBALL, NO PAY, AND 5+ YEARS for every life he took. Let's pray the Atlanta Falcon fans will hit the NFL wallet! If the fans continue to watch Vick, they are just as guilty od MURDER!
I agree with the one who said "may he rot in hell", right along with everyone who finds this to be a "sport". The sentence is way to soft for such cruelity.
He is SCUM!!! Torture him and then let him suffer like the dogs that he killed did!
I do not believe he should be able to plead his way to a lesser degree in the charges.I think he should be punished severly.I hope that the ASPCA will stay on top of this and not let him slide as so many of the rich people are doing today..a line should stand that we the people are not going to let Vick weesel and talk his way out ot this crime.
many people are outrage by mistreatment of animals but not moved by children living in poverty. Hurican Katrina raised millions of dollars for for the aspca but where'd those millions go? i was in new orleans for the clean up and animals were not being rescued they were running rampant and being shot by the police and sheriff in order to keep us(soldiers) safe. sad that this had to happen but it sadly was neccesary. i say this because no one who donated cared to even check and see where these funds were going and if they were being put to use, yet they won't hand a dollar to a homeless man because he "MAY" buy crack. when did animals rights and safty become more important to this country than human rights. i love animals but i love humans more. i love children more. one nfl player is hated by an entire country for facts that have yet to be proven about treatment of animals when years ago another killed a woman drinking and driving and he was not hated half as much. people get tickets and fines for not having food for dogs at all time.......but we dont even have food infront of our children at all times. this is exceptable. this would lead you to believe that our dogs should be treated better than our children or our children should be taken from us for not treating them better than dogs? this makes no sense. if you hit an animal with your hand its concidered cruel if you spank your child its discipline? with millions startving and in poverty, look how much more money we as a nation donate to animals vs towards human beings. this is sad
also the hipocracy in this country is beyond crazy. there are states making it illegal to house dogs outside between certain times of the day and certain tempiture. why is it the cattle and horses and livestock can be outside and dogs who come from wolves cannot? we are begining to give these animals human rights not animals rights. the HSUS is labeling breeding as "rape" this is pure insanity. hundreds of cows are raped a day then so that we have beef on the market.. it is blowing my mind that an animal can be "RAPED" by another animal.
I do not understand why the NAACP is even a part of this. This is not race related...Mr. Vick and his gang broke the law. They murdered dogs. I don't care if Mr. Vick reaped benefits from the fighting or not.. He deserves jail, he deserves the same compassion and justice he handed out to innocent dogs. He has proven that he is not a decent human being. He is a punk with punk mentality.
There is an old operetta in which the executionor sings "let the punishment fit the crime." Unlike other countries, Mr. Vick will never get the punishment he so very richly deserves. I watched an interview where he stated he loved animals. Really! He had already been sited for animal neglect. How long before we really do make the punishment fit the crime. Innocent souls have been slattered and tortured.....what punishment would be fitting?
i wish i could give them the real thing,but...im buying a bunch of mike vicks dog chew toys
for my dogs..first one that chews it up first gets a dogs night out
and lots of treats enjoy!!
If VIck is allowed to play again, what about Pete Rose, Does Vick think he is any better. I will never, yes I said NEVER watch a game he plays in. I hope he sees the eyes of those poor dogs, and hears their cries for the rest of his evil, rotten, sinful, lowdown, greedy, loser life. I wouldn't buy anything in the world that has his name anywhere about it... I think he should get the electric chair.. and his greedy scum buddies to...
i agree with everyone! This man is supposed to be a role model for young kids and he's out doing this?!?! He should get more than 5 years..he sould have done to him what he did to these dogs. Suspension?!?!? FIRE HIM!
lets face facts michael vick will
serve no time and this will go away
because he can throw a freakin football. in his statement he said he found jesus, why was he not already aquainted. i have no understanding of what this person has done. think about it! he looked those dogs in the face before he killed them that more than cruel thats sick. i look into my own dogs face and all i see is the loyalty and the love, unconditional love that my scotty terrier has for me. now think about those trusting face he looked into and tell me this man has ever met jesus. he's cruel, vicious and i have nothing but contempt for the coward, but because this jerk can run and throw a football he gets to become a millionaire and keep from being punished. i have no faith in the law the richer you are the easier
you get it. i wish i could be wrong about this. i will close with a simple thought if he can be so cruel to kill a defensless dog
what will he do with a child?
I am very disappointed that the president of the ASPCA said that he thinks vick's apology is sincere. Actions speak louder than word. Many many months or years from now maybe then it may seem sincere if his actions show it. I really hope that the ASPCA is not caving where vick is concerned.
I hope the ASPCA continues to come out in full force against vick's actions. If he gets off lightly, that will send a signal that his actions are not reprehensible and not deserving a severe punishment. He didn't make a mistake; he made a lifestyle choice. A choice that was his, and he needs to pay dearly.
THAT GUY .. OH MAN I HATE HIM SOOO MUCH I MEEN IM A 10 YEAR OLD AND I DONT CARE HE IS SO MEAN I WOULD SOO BE KIKING HIS BUTT RIGHT NOW I WOULD KNOCK HIM OUT IN A FLASH THAT IS JUST SOOO CRUDE AND CRUEL TO DO SUCH A BAD THING LIKE THAT,
