DOG FIGHTING RESOURCES
We’ve added new dog fighting information to our website. Dog fighting is currently receiving much attention from the media. However, this has been a problem we’ve been up against here at the ASPCA for over a hundred years.
For information on the history of dog fighting and the laws surrounding it, please visit our Dog Fighting FAQ.
We’ve also added a Dog Fighting Glossary, complete with photographs, for our readers who would like to learn more about the specific methods used in training dogs for combat. Read up to find out what a “Jenny” or a “slatmill” is used for.

DOG FIGHTING HAS TO END IN EVERY STATE AND ALL NEED TO BE JAILED - CELEB STATUS OR NOT!
Good work. I will be addressing this issue at my blog next week, as well.
This subject need more ongoing discussion. We hear about dog fighting and fume about it but it seems like the authorities, as well as the laws, have no teeth.
I realize that hanging may not be acceptable but public whipping used to be an acceptable punishment. Perhaps it could be revived for animal cruelty. Names of companies and individuals should be made public. Visibility is a firm restraint for many.
This is a hangover from the days of cock-fighting. It is merely a show for power and position in the neighborhood.
I feel that forcing Pit-Bulls to fight is extremely cruel, and the fight usually doesn't end until one of the dogs is dead.
I feel this is a sign of a mentally ill owner who is unable to do his\her own fighting.
This is a so-called "sport" for power hungry people with nothing more constructive to do.
Go to school, get a job, get a life, but please leave the poor animals out of it !
I'm so mad about it I made this bumper sticker!!

Has anyone seen that HBO will be exploring the underworld of dogfighting on a show called "Real Sports"?! I would argue that exploring it on a show that reports on the sports world only gives this deplorable activity status as a "sport" in the eyes of those who cannot make that judgement on their own. Please get the word out to everyone you know to let HBO know how you feel about this. Please email Bill Nelson at HBO at bill.nelson@hbo.com. And, please pass this along.
Listening, reading and watching the media over the past month or so, you'd think dog fighting is very pervasive. I think it probably is NOT...at least I hope not. Inhuman and reprehensible as it is, I think the media is making a bigger issue out of it than it deserves. I do think we should fight it and prosecute the SOB's who are involved in it, but I just don't think it's that pervasive. DO YOU ALL?

I've heard North Carolina has one of the worst dogfighting problems. Today in school, I heard people talking about how they raise their pittbulls to fight. I don't think all pittbulls are bad, it's the owners! In my opinion, people should have a liscense to buy big dogs. It would stop a lot of the fights. You'd be amazed, even teens are getting into it. It's a bad game, in which I dont think anyone wins.
