Pet Poison Q & A: Dogs Who Drink from the Toilet
How dangerous is it for a dog to take a drink from a toilet bowl treated with a cleaning tablet?
—Hannah P.
It really depends, Hannah. Most toilet bowl cleaning tablets that are used according to label directions would not be expected to cause serious or systemic clinical problems, provided that the animal does not ingest the tablet directly. Typically, we see only mild gastrointestinal upset. If you feel that your dog may have come into contact with more of the cleaner than would normally be present in the toilet bowl, we advise that you contact your local veterinarian, emergency clinic or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.

I JUST READ THIS ABOUT PETS DRINK FROM THE TOILET WITH THOSE TABLETS IN THE TOILET. MY ADVICE IS THIS I USE THEM IN ALL OF MY TOILETS AND THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO KEEP YOUR PETS FROM DRINKING THE WATER OUT OF THE TOILET 1) KEEP THE DOOR TO THE BATHROOM CLOSED, OR 2) KEEP THE LID TO THE TOILET CLOSED. THATS THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP PETS FROM DRINKING OUT OF THE TOILET. MOST IMPORTANT ALWAYS GIVE YOUR PETS FRESH WATER DAILY, I DO.
i cant belive that toilet bowl that dogs could get hurt so what i do is that i always keeep the lid down and a goood thing for me is that my dog cant even reach the toilet.
I would suggest for someone concerned about their pets health: DON'T use the tablets, the chemicals can be harsh on the animals as well as the environment. I completely agree with the fresh water, complete with ice cubes in the summer...healthier than bones for their teeth and entertainment.
