Press Release: ASPCA Agents Arrest Woman for Felony Animal Cruelty
(New York, NY) September 13, 2006 -- ASPCA Special Agents arrested Rosalda Faraci, 30, of Queens for one count of aggravated animal cruelty, one count of animal cruelty, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon for wrapping a dog’s testicles with a rubber band.
On August 15, 2006, the ASPCA responded to a complaint of a 10-month-old Cairn terrier named Lucio being beaten in the backyard of the defendant's home. The dog’s testicles were tightly wrapped with a rubber band, and a foul odor emanated from the injured area. Lucio was taken to the ASPCA Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital for treatment. According to veterinarians there, the injured site was severely infected and caused the puppy great pain. Lucio was also significantly underweight. After surgery to correct his condition, Lucio is doing well and the ASPCA is hopeful for a complete recovery.
If convicted, Ms. Faraci faces up to four years in prison.

It is wonderful to read about happy endings like this one. I certainly hope this woman gets convicted. The sad part is that the maximum sanction is 4 years. What that says to me and likely many others out there is that animal cruelty is not a big deal; it isn't a serious offense. Now, I am not necessarily in favor of locking every criminal up in prison for a long time. Our prisons and jails are crowded enough. However, I have done enough research in the animal abuse/violence area to know that when a human being inflicts pain, and sometimes even torture, on an animal-for whatever reason-we, our society, need to stop and take a look and consider the serious consequences that may, and perhaps likely, will follow in the future. This woman stands a great chance of inflicting similar kinds of despicable acts on other living things, including other humans, perhaps her children if she has any. I think efforts need to be aimed at strengthening our laws against animal cruelty and torture and lengthening the sentence. It is a very sad realily, but most people do not respond until drastic measures are taken. Now is the time. --Sue, Sacramento, CA
I completely agree with the above comment.
I wouldn't mind an "eye for an eye" approach. Wonder how much the psycho would like a rubber band tightly wrapped around parts of her body?
i just can't believe, there are people ignorant enough to do this kind of things to indefense animals. I have one dog and he loves me so much that makes my hubby jelaous-i took care of him since he was a puppy- (funny thing is that when i am with my hubby the dog gets jelaous..haha,ha,) i'm just saying whoever have that much sickness in their heads shouldn't be trown back to society UNTIL they receive anger managment classes or some sort of counceling. Sometimes people don't know better. Sometimes they are raised in a violent enviroment and are grown thinking that torturing animals is normal.
Anybody deserves a 2nd chance.
That is just awful what the poor pup had to go through but I'm so very glad that he is doing better. It's kind of distrubing that someone would put a rubber band around the pup's um private area. Just seeing a human male get kicked by a ball in that area just can let anyone know how much pain they must be going through just by how they are reacting to it. I can't even believe that someone would do that what was this lady thinking? If she was thinking at all that is. Like one comment said about an eye for an eye, she wouldn't like it if a rubber band was was wrapped around her breast, she would be in just about the same pain as the poor puppy was going through. Hope the pup gets a much better home and never harmed again.
I am happy to say that this cairn - now known as Kenny - is starting his new life with Cairn Rescue USA. We will work to find Kenny a new loving home where he will be treated like the little prince he is. Visit www.CairnRescueUSA.com to help us with a donation for Kenny or any of our other cairns.
It is unfortunate to continue hearing such horrid atrocities that our animals endure. We humans who care about our animals are their advocates. I cannot stress how vital our voices are in reporting animal abuse. Taking action and caring can save an animals life. You are angels to these animals. Just by making the initiative step and reporting these criminals.
