What is ASPCA® Partnership?
The ASPCA is proud to partner with selected animal welfare and community organizations around the country to continue ASPCA Partnership—a focused effort to create a country of humane communities, where animals receive the compassion and respect they deserve, and where there is no more euthanasia of homeless animals simply because of a lack of resources.
Our overall goal is to increase each community’s live release rate—that is, the number of animals who leave the sheltering system alive. In order to achieve this goal, the ASPCA has made a commitment to support our partners by helping focus their efforts on increasing spay/neuter and feral cat resources and adoption, foster and transfer programs.
Each community will also receive resources depending upon need. These may include board development and strategic planning work, Meet Your Match™ Canine-ality™ and Feline-ality™ programs and a variety of training opportunities and capacity-building and related animal welfare efforts that focus on positive outcomes for animals most at risk in the community.
ASPCA Partnership is the vision of ASPCA President & CEO Ed Sayres who is a firm believer in the power of a shared goal reached through the collaboration of all organizations and agencies involved. Sayres successfully implemented the ASPCA Partnership model in San Francisco and brought his vision to New York City where, in 2005, the ASPCA joined the Mayor’s Alliance for New York City’s Animals. This organization illustrates the collaborative model that Sayres so enthusiastically supports. It is comprised of more than 160 New York City animal rescue groups and shelters, and has a public-private partnership with the City of New York to help end the needless euthanasia of its homeless animals. In 2005, the ASPCA provided a $5 million lead grant to the Mayor's Alliance for the purpose of reaching this goal.
Similar collaborative partnerships are being created with and among local community groups and animal welfare agencies in our selected ASPCA partner communities.
