Austin, Texas, joined the ASPCA Partnership in February 2007, and since then, has galvanized its public and animal welfare leaders to dramatically reduce shelter intake and increase adoptions and spay/neuter services. With the dedication and collaboration of four different partner agencies, Austin is making a serious, successful effort to end the needless euthanasia of healthy adoptable pets.
The community’s partner agencies include Town Lake Animal Center, the city’s open-intake facility, the Austin Humane Society, a private, non-profit animal shelter, Animal Trustees of Austin, a wellness and spay/neuter clinic, and Emancipet, a low-cost spay/neuter provider.
Town Lake Animal Center takes in more than 23,000 pets each year, many of whom are healthy and simply need a second chance with loving, responsible families.
Formed in 1952, the Austin Humane Society is dedicated to eliminating the unnecessary euthanasia of dogs and cats through innovative adoption programs, high-volume spay/neuter programs, community engagement, and serving animals and people in times of crisis.
Animal Trustees of Austin provides affordable wellness care, spay/neuter surgeries, teeth cleaning and polishing, heart worm treatment, and surgical procedures for more than 36,000 dogs and cats annually. Animal Trustees' staff of experienced veterinarians and technicians are dedicated to caring for the animals of Central Texas.
Emancipet provides free and low-cost spay/neuter services throughout Central Texas via mobile and stationary clinics. Each month, highly skilled veterinary surgeons and veterinary technicians serve between 1,200 and 2,000 pets.
