Spay Day USA ended magically for one Anatolian shepherd chosen to be a mascot at a spay/neuter event in downtown Florida. Sadie was fawned over and smooched by many attendees, but it was the Travis family that later came to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay to adopt her. “Yes, it was love at first sight,” admits Lisa Travis. “She was very sweet, and we thought she'd be a great addition to our home.
When Sadie first arrived, the two-year-old was a bit possessive with her food and toys, but very quickly began to trust her new pack. “We have two other dogs,” says Lisa, “a Great Dane, Zeus, who came from the same shelter and a barbet, Nino, whom we adopted from a rescue group.” Sadie and Nino have hit it off, running and wrestling all day together," says Lisa. The two recover at night by sleeping on the carpet beside the Travises’ bed.
Though Sadie's past is a mystery, her future is becoming very clear. “Using hand signals, I've already taught her to sit, lie down and stay,” says Lisa. Seeing how bright this shepherd is, the Travis family has big plans for her to share a little of her light. “Zeus and Nino are already in service as therapy dogs,” says Lisa. “My son and I take them to local nursing homes to visit with the residents. We plan on Sadie performing the same duty. We think she'll be wonderful.”
