Why Austin?

Why was Austin chosen as an ASPCA® Mission: Orange partner city?

One of the largest cities in the southern United States, with 4.1 million residents, Austin, TX, has a rich history of working toward the goal of becoming a humane community. In 1997, the City of Austin and County Commissioners Court passed a resolution to end the killing of adoptable animals at Town Lake Animal Center. Now, as a selected community in the ASPCA Mission: Orange campaign, Austin hopes to realize that dream.

How is the ASPCA contributing financially to Austin?

The ASPCA invests up to $200,000 in each of the selected communities, including Austin, in addition to consultation and training to establish sustainability of the programs implemented and future success of each partner agency. The funds assist these communities in making significant inroads toward becoming humane communities and maintaining that status.
