Great job, everybody!

Another successful collaboration saves four-legged lives in Austin! The city-funded Town Lake Animal Center (TLAC) had so many July adoptions that they could not keep up with the spay/neuter surgeries required to release the lucky pets to their new parents. All these claimed pets lingering in the “waiting room” might have meant less space for other cats and dogs awaiting adoption, and faster rates of euthanasia to create space for the constant influx of new animals. Instead, TLAC called on its partners at EmanciPET to lend a hand. Everyone pitched in to help—administrative staff, supervisors, the director, volunteers—and in just four hours, TLAC converted its conference room into a surgery suite. On August 1, less than one day later, EmanciPET’s vets were on site performing surgeries. EmanciPET performed 30 sterilizations, and TLAC ran its daily program of about 20, for a total of 50 animals ready to go home in one day—a new record. 106 animals went home that week. Great job, everybody!
