Don't Miss a Trick - Adopt a Dog for a Real Treat

ASPCA Marks Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month with Special Adoptions Drive at ASPCA Adoption Center in Manhattan this Weekend
October 22, 2010

WHAT:

The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) is inviting animal lovers to celebrate national Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month by adopting from the ASPCA’s Adoption Center in Manhattan during a special adoption drive on October 23 and October 24, 2010. Adopters will receive deluxe, ASPCA-exclusive pet blankets from European Home Designs®, and toy giveaways also will be provided to dog (and cat) adopters.

WHY:

While wonderful companion animals are available for adoption year-round, the ASPCA places special emphasis on October as a month when potential pet parents should consider choosing from the millions of canines in shelters across the country.

“Fall is the perfect time to adopt a dog,” said Gail Buchwald, Senior Vice President the ASPCA’s Adoption Center. “Summer vacations are over, you’re easing into the fall routine, and the weather is perfect for dog-walking and training. We look forward to seeing many potential adopters leaving our shelter with a new friend this weekend.”

WHO:

All dogs have been spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, and are up-to-date on vaccinations. Adopters also receive a free leash, pet care information, and a certificate for one free follow-up medical exam (valued at $250) at the ASPCA’s Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital, redeemable within the first two weeks after adoption.

WHEN:

Saturday, October 23 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
Sunday, October 24 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

HOW:

Potential adopters should bring with them two forms of identification, one with their current address (such as a utility bill) and one government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license, passport, military ID, or non-driver ID). The adopter may also be asked to provide one personal reference, reachable by phone. The ASPCA strongly encourages all members of the household to come to the Adoption Center. Dog adoption fees range from $75 to $200. For puppies under six months of age, six mandatory puppy classes must be purchased for $50.
