The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center is located at the ASPCA’s Midwest Office in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois. The twin cities and the surrounding metropolitan areas are home to the University of Illinois and nearly 200,000 residents who possess the true Midwestern spirit of progressiveness and warm, casual hospitality. The area is within an easy two-hour drive to Chicago, St. Louis and Indianapolis. Founded in 1978 at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, the Center remains an Allied Agency of the University.
The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center is the only facility of its kind in North America, and provides 24-hour emergency poison treatment advice to both veterinarians and pet parents. The Center’s expert staff includes 28 veterinarians, 13 of who are board-certified in general and/or veterinary toxicology.
We are seeking full- or part-time licensed veterinarians to expand our outstanding team. We offer flexible scheduling and a 40-hour work week. Our workplace is fast-paced, congenial and diverse. Training and working at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also fulfills the training and experience prerequisite for eligibility to sit for both the American Board of Toxicology (ABT) and the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology (ABVT) certification examinations.
The ideal candidate will have a positive and upbeat demeanor, a minimum of one year clinical experience, possess a strong foundation in veterinary clinical medicine, have solid problem-solving and excellent communication skills, and have a strong desire to help animals, pet parents and other veterinarians. Candidates must have an active Illinois license in good standing (or obtain the license within one year). Basic computer skills and proficient typing ability are a must. The ability to work a rotating schedule including nights, weekends and holidays is required.
Starting salary for licensed veterinarians is $60,000/year, plus shift differential pay for applicable shifts.
