Are White Horses Shunned Because of Their Color?

I was once told that white horses are often ostracized from a herd because of their color and its potential for attracting predators to the herd. Is this really possible?

Hi Lynne—this is an interesting theory, but I am not aware of any scientific evidence that supports it. I suspect it arose as a way to explain why there are fewer white horses in some wild or feral populations than horses of other colors. The real reason for this is that white is a recessive color, naturally making for fewer white horses.
