WA Trooper Shoots Pig Who Escaped from Minivan

May 19,2011

pig A Washington State Patrol trooper shot a 500-pound runaway pig on May 13 after he was unable to stop her with his Taser, the Spokesman-Review reports.

Trooper Morgan Mehaffey saw the pig on the sidewalk in Spokane Valley after she had smashed two windows and escaped a moving minivan.

Mehaffey told the newspaper that when three men at a gas station asked him if he had a tow rope to lasso the pig, “I said, ‘No. I have bullets.’” With the purchaser’s permission, he used his Taser on the pig in an attempt to make it easier to lasso her, but the pig was unfazed.

“As soon as the pig got loose, the lady said, ‘Shoot it,’” so he did, Mehaffey told the newspaper.

The minivan driver, Pam Lane, told the newspaper she had recently purchased the pig in Washington and was headed home to Montana to use her as a breeder.
