August 04,2010

The Telepgraph reports that a recent study conducted by Mindlab International has found that 55 percent of people were more relaxed when they were with their pets and 44 percent were even less worried about financial problems.

Others found that 25 percent of pet parents described their dog as their best friend and one in six women admitted to relying on pets as confidants.

One of the organization's psychologists, Dr David Lewis, told the news source that "interacting with a dog is a profound and effective stress reducer. It increases feelings of contentment and relaxation."

Pet parents who are looking for ways to bring their best friend out on a walk or along for another activity may want to consider some suggestions from pet experts. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals notes that proper dog care should always include exercise, to keep pets happy and healthy.

When engaging in mental games, try using food as part of the fun when training him for obedience or tricks.

Physical exercise is also an area where dogs can excel, but it's important to know the limits of both pet parent and pet. Young and old canines shouldn't be exercised excessively, due to the changes occurring in their bodies.
