Great Dane Saves Girl from Sexual Assault

January 12,2011

dog A 160-pound Great Dane named Scooby recently came to the rescue of a teenage girl who was being sexually assaulted in Chicago. The dog and his guardian managed to chase down the assailant and corner him until police arrived to arrest the man, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The 14-year-old girl was walking toward her home when a man accosted her. The girl began to call for help, and fortunately Scooby and his owner, Agustin Zamora Jr., were within earshot.

When the assailant saw Zamora and his big canine headed toward him, he took off running. However, Zamora, Scooby and a few other onlookers pursued the man into a dead end. The dog then barked at the man, keeping him in place until the police arrived.

"I was not trying to be brave or anything, I just reacted," Zamora told the news source. "If it was my mother or my cousin, I would want someone to do something."

The pet parent added that his dog, like many Great Danes, is typically a peaceful dog. Zamora said his dog has always had a remarkably deep bark, even when he was a puppy.
