Two Southeast Texas men were arrested and more than 50 animals were rescued at what appeared to be a child’s birthday party—but was actually an elaborate cover for an alleged cockfight, the Houston Chronicle reported May 2.
The men were reportedly arrested for failing to identify themselves and for interfering with an investigation. The children’s party, which included a waterslide, was a front for a nearby cockfight, police told the newspaper.
Authorities rescued 48 roosters, two dogs and a horse from the scene. They also found a number of dead birds on the property and confiscated a trailer with carpeted cages, the Chronicle says.
