CA Men Arrested Over Abandoned, Starved Horse

horse Two Riverside, California, men face felony animal cruelty charges after allegedly abandoning a bruised and starving horse, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Witnesses say they saw the two men, Juan Jose Hidalgo Rodarte, 50, and Cresenciano Castro Reyes, 44, on horseback, dragging the horse to a spot near a nature preserve and then leaving without the horse, the newspaper says, adding that the horse was rescued the night of May 13.

Riverside County authorities told the Times that they find about one abandoned horse per week.
