The ASPCA helped rescue 175 dogs and puppies from a puppy mill. Our responders also helped collect evidence against its owner, provide shelter and care for the animals, and ultimately prepare to find the dogs forever homes.
Rowan County, Kentucky—October 2011
After more than 100 small dogs were removed from a Kentucky puppy mill, the ASPCA aided local authorities in sheltering and treating the pups, helped gather evidence for criminal charges against the mill’s owner, and transported dogs to New Jersey and Ohio.
Camden County, Missouri—September 2010
On September 21, ASPCA Field Investigations and Response Team removed more than 70 dogs from an overrun puppy mill in Missouri.
Holly Springs, Mississippi—February 2010
Over 95 dogs were seized from a puppy mill in Holly Springs, MS. The severely underweight animals were housed in feces-encrusted pens and suffering from neglect. Several dead adult dogs and puppies were also discovered on the property.
Jasper County, Mississippi—October 2009
The ASPCA assisted in the investigation of a suspected puppy mill operating in Bay Springs, Mississippi. 46 dogs—including Corgis, Shih Tzus, Poodles, Basset Hounds, Pomeranians, Chihuahuas and Schnauzers—were removed from the overcrowded kennels and taken to a temporary facility.
Sparta, Tennessee—February 2009
A call from an alarmed would-be puppy buyer alerted authorities to the wretched condition of the hundreds of dogs at this puppy mill. The ASPCA managed the raid and brought 43 of the rescued dogs back to New York City for adoption!
