Animal-Loving Couple Rescued Abandoned Dog

My husband and I were considering adopting another dog—a companion for our pooch, Triton—when we received a call from my sister-in-law. A Siberian husky had been found chained to a tree behind the building where she worked. The poor dog had been chained out there all day in the rain without any shelter. The people who were working fed her scraps and gave her water, but left her there hoping her owners would reappear. That evening they had given up hope and called animal control. Animal control said they would pick her up and she would more than likely end up being euthanized. That's when my sister called us.

We went to pick up the dog and saw that she was wearing ID tags. We tried our best not to get too attached, knowing she already had a home. But when we called the number on her tag, we found it had been disconnected. The next morning my husband and I went to the owner's house and found it abandoned.

The husky—now called Gracie—and Triton became fast friends. But our happy family didn't end there—three weeks later, Gracie gave birth to a healthy puppy! We named the baby boy Onyx. They both stole our hearts. Sometimes I think about the home Gracie had before us, and I don't understand how anyone could abandon a member of their family. I'm glad Gracie and Onyx came to us—they are so loved in their forever home.
