Why isn't animal abuse a felony in New York and most other states? And why aren't legislators fighting to make it a felony conviction instead of the "misdemeanor" it is now???

God bless our animals. They are all so loving and devoted and need to be cared for as children do. Give them a break PLEASE!!!!

  • Submitted by Alexis at:August 7, 2011 05:57 AM

I love animals. I have no idea how people can be so cruel and hurt such cute and innocent creatures. They deserve as much love as a human being does, people who abuse, neglect, or kill animals for no reason should automatically get a life sentence for what they do. It kills me to see animals suffer for that reason. It is heartbreaking. I have two dogs of my own and I would never ever do that to an animal. I love animals to much to do such a harmful thing.

  • Submitted by Dana at:August 4, 2011 02:48 PM

I too believe if you are convicted of Animal Cruelty, you should get automatic 20 year sentence. The next step is hurting or killing a human. They are SICK>>>let's put them out of commission!

Hello everyone! I am a huge animal lover and I have saved many animals. I grew up in a bad neighborhood and witnessed the abuse of animals everyday. It was traumatizing and devastating. It hurt so bad... more than words can say. I want to become a animal law enforcement officer to help as many animals as possible from the cruelty most of them are faced with everyday.

All anyone has to do is take a small amount of their time and pick up a stray or injured animal and make a phone call. There are places these animals can get help from. Instead people just walk on by. You don't have to keep evey helpless animal you see just help it. I don't understand why this is so complicated for people. They just don't want to be bothered. My eleven year old daughter wants to be a vet when she grows up so that she will have the ability to help homeless and abused animals. The laws need to be cruel for the abuser to get the message thru. I saved two orphaned squirrels and two cats this year with little effort at all. I am a hygienist and I work full time as well as being a mother of twin daughters. I have four cats and a yellow lab that has epilepsy and dry eyes. I am by no means am an animal hoarder and I will not adopt anymore animals until one or two pass away. Four cats is a hand full but I love them we all work together to keep the house very clean. With saying all of that I still take the effort to help other animals.

I love animals, i love all animals and i wish i could keep every stray that i see. It breaks my heart when i see them wandering around alone all I can do is cry. I want to help in any way that i can. I absolutley HATE people who abuse animals. I wish it was alot harder to become a pet owner honestly, so we could find out if you can actually love and care for a pet. As a job i wish to save pets from abuse and animal cruelty. I would LOVE to see the people suffer for what they do to animals.

There's not a lot being done for animal abuse, neglect, etc. We as people should do more for them. I feel an animal being mistreated is just like a human being mistreated. We should do all that we can to help them. Especially for those animals that have bad names because of the way their owners have been using them in the past, present, and near future if nothing is done.

***REPORTING POSSIBLE ANIMAL ABUSE*** So as I was looking through people's facebook pages, I came across a picture of a male individual throwing his puppy in the air. The subtitle reads "Catch!" http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=40438804403&set=a.430356079403.216081.667404403&type=1 This picture has been bothering me for a while. I don't know what to do.

The internet has done so much to help these animals! But the animal cruelty laws have still got a long way to go!

  • Submitted by terriann at:June 2, 2011 12:14 AM

It should all start with education from first grade on up, that abuse and neglect is wrong. Prevention is much better than dealing with abuse later on. Too many people look at animals as property and disposable. Some don't know the commitment inolved.

We should do whatever we can to help animals in need, be brave and stand up for them!, with little or no concern, or fear of what the abusers/neglecters think about us!, this planet is in our dominion till God returns, we are responsible for it! we can either be good and faithful servants, and stewards, or poor and lazy ones! the choice is ours!

We have step in and stand up for these animals, or the violence will just get worse in larger numbers. There are still so many states that just keep letting these offenders off, over and over again. The good people are just getting sick and tired of this.

  • Submitted by Chellie at:June 1, 2011 06:18 AM

Animals are creatures of god, and he intrusted us for their care..It is a proven fact,it starts off as animal abusers to go on to other crimes like murder... I feel that anyone who abuses and neglects animals should get at least 5 years in prison along with a huge fine, and that they should never be allowed to own or be around animals for the rest of their lives. Remember, being a responsible pet owner is having your pets spayed or neurtered.

  • Submitted by kim at:June 1, 2011 05:30 AM

I think animals are very important and should be treated with alot of love and respect, They always give and never expect anything in return, And people who harm them or children in any way should be skined and hung!!!!!

  • Submitted by Jennifer Whildin at:June 1, 2011 12:57 AM

I share the view that the punishments aren't severe enough for what most abusers deserve. Still, I'm glad for any punishment they do get. Animals need us to watch out for them.

  • Submitted by roxy at:May 31, 2011 10:33 PM

i agree punishing the human exactly what they did to the animal

  • Submitted by LB at:May 31, 2011 08:34 PM

I have sent a video to PETA & the Police of Mutt & Lab Rescue in North Creek NY abusing & fighting dogs yet that was not enough. Cops & AC did NOTHING! Animals have very little rights & most abusers get to walk. The system is messed up and most people who abuse animals move on to humans.

  • Submitted by Anne at:May 31, 2011 07:22 PM

I think they ahould have the same punishment as for hurting or murduring a human being.

Facebook is amazing! I have built a large network of "cross posters" and rescue/transport organizations. Together we have shared (and SAVED) many many dogs and cats who were on Death Row at some of America's most crowded, high-kill shelters. You can create a "Friend List" independent from your regular friends and family. Please use your FB time to help save 1000's of the Millions of abandoned pets in this country!

In KY, its's a class d flony to abuse/ neglect an animal, after a dog named Romeo's abuse was taped by neighbors, and shown to local police who arrested the man responsible. He was first released on a misdemeanor, which outraged his neighbors, who then took the video and the dog to the State capital, and after the govenor seen the tape signed a bill making it a class d felony in Kentucky. Romeo at that time was an 8 mo. old golden retriever, who was body slammed, thrown across the yard, slammed into a tree and had his house rolled on top of him, I received this as a letter from the Hsus last spring but this story still haunts me, and I received an email from Northshore Animal League of Amrica about an adult Keeshond named Ellie, who has a severe ear infection that will require surgery, bad burns on her back whose sores are so9 bad that there are maggots in the deeper wounds and she requires serious care, she was homeless when she was found.

yes i agree these animal abusers should do life, their little lives are just as preciousto them as ours is to us. we are their only voice to help them, animal abusers are sick scumbags. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I share the cute photo of the day picture to my profile, and pass the word along about animal abuse!

  • Submitted by Joanne at:May 31, 2011 05:57 PM

Any kind of animal abuse is totally unacceptable and should be considered a major felony, punishable by law with severe penalties like many, many years in prison. Take for example that SOB Irving Sanchez who was caught on video abusing a pitbull puppy in an elevator. I hope he rots in prison for a long, long time!

  • Submitted by Travis at:May 31, 2011 05:47 PM

i think that people should get a sentence for hurting animals, be locked up for sure but maybe not as long as 20 years, i mean what they did is just horrible and inhumane and therefor need too be punished but unless its super bad they should not be in jail for 20 years, maybe 5-10years 15max depending on the crime

  • Submitted by Heidi at:May 31, 2011 04:57 PM

God created animals and He expects us to love them and treat them with love and affection. And if you are an abuser to them you "will" answer to God for doing that.

  • Submitted by Barbara at:May 31, 2011 04:21 PM

You can tell how a person really is by the way they treat or talk about animals. Those that abuse animals or think it's funny, you should avoid and have no use for them, and report any and all abuse to the proper authorities.

  • Submitted by laura at:May 31, 2011 04:20 PM

help a pet in need and adopt from ASPCA!

  • Submitted by Pamala at:May 31, 2011 04:19 PM

I agree 100%. There is not enough punishment handed down to those who mistreat and kill precious animals. They belong to God as well.

  • Submitted by Nancy at:May 31, 2011 04:02 PM

If someone hurts an animal, they should have the same thing done to them as they done to the animal. Then they should be locked up for AT LEAST 20 years.
