Available for Adoption at the ASPCA:
Introducing the Fab Five—Poodles with ‘Tude

On October 23, 2008, the ASPCA rescued 33 miniature poodles from a home in Queens, New York. After receiving expert care and attention from our shelter and medical staff, most of the poodles have been adopted, but there are still five fab doggies who need homes! Sweet and petite, these pooches are the perfect lap and city dogs.

The Fab Five have “special needs,” but that doesn’t mean they have less to give—just more to receive! They require quiet homes with patient parents who are willing to work with their medical requirements, and provide routine dental care, grooming and veterinary checkups.

If you’re interested in adopting one of these cute canines, please call the ASPCA Placement Department at (212) 876-7700, ext. 4120, or visit our shelter at 424 East 92nd Street in Manhattan.

Orson

Name: ORSON
Breed: Miniature Poodle
Color: White
Gender: Male
Age: 8 years

A love bug with a coat like cotton, Orson is a reserved gent who needs a minute or two to get comfy with strangers. But once he gives you the okay, he’s yours…for life! He enjoys scratches behind the ears, back rubs and leisurely cuddling.

Since loud things can be overwhelming for Orson, he’s looking for a home without young children. He has dental disease, like most of his Fab Five brethren, and a weak jaw. He will benefit from a diet of soft food and a pet parent with a tender touch.

Shadie

Name: SHADIE
Breed: Miniature Poodle
Color: White
Gender: Male
Age: 5 years

Sexy Shadie is another shy lamb who blossoms with a little bit of patience and a whole lotta love. Like his poodle-mates, he loves to be cuddled and coddled—so if you’re looking for cozy nights of couch-surfing, Shadie’s your pood.

Though it doesn’t affect his sunny mood, Shadie suffers from severe skin problems, which are treated with medicated baths and antibiotics for secondary infections. He also shows signs of dental disease and takes a supplement for an underactive thyroid gland.

Richie

Name: RICHIE
Breed: Miniature Poodle
Color: White
Gender: Male
Age: 10 years

The Fab Five’s eldest statesman, Richie, sports a hip sweater and a winning smile. He loves attention, and even though he’s the teeniest of the bunch, he packs a punch of sweet affection. And what a happy surprise that his delicate frame houses a burning desire for lap time, dinner and first-rate rubs.

With a frown permanently upside down, Richie has no teeth and a tender jaw, which requires a lifetime diet of soft food. He’s also blind, and would benefit from a parent who’s slow and steady.

Bonnie

Name: BONNIE
Breed: Miniature Poodle
Color: White
Gender: Female
Age: 8 years

The lone lady of the bunch, Bonnie is a Chatty Cathy who won’t take no for an answer. She’s a protective mama bear who likes other small dogs and calm, collected humans. A sheltered lass, she hasn’t seen much of the world, but would sure like to learn from an experienced parent.

Bonnie is a healthy, hearty girl, but she does have significant dental disease like her counterparts. Regular care and visits to the vet will keep her perky and content to while away the days by your side.

Wally

Name: WALLY
Breed: Miniature Poodle
Color: White
Gender: Male
Age: 8 years

Where’s Wally? He’s probably burrowed in the back of his kennel, waiting patiently for his lucky new forever home. Wally is fluffy and kind, and would like to live with another small dog or adult adopter who’ll help him emerge from his cocoon. He’s a bit passive, but his shy exterior certainly makes for a rich inner life.

With a full coat and bright eyes, Wally is fit, but he suffers from some dental disease and partial vision impairment. Future pet parents will provide routine dental and eye care to keep him happy and healthy.
