Oklahoma City Success Story
Peggy was born a barn cat and experienced a tragic incident at a young age: She was stepped on by a horse! Her leg was broken, and her owners did not seek medical attention. She was eventually surrendered to the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter. At the shelter, the Central Oklahoma Humane Society’s (OK Humane) in-take coordinators identified her as a great candidate to receive medical attention through Rita’s Angel Fund. This fund provides vital surgeries to pets whose lives would be threatened without medical attention.
Although Peggy was a very sweet and happy cat who didn’t seem bothered by her condition, she had an injury that was prone to infection and might prove fatal. Once admitted to OK Humane, it was determined that her leg would need to be amputated. Peggy’s surgery was a success and she was quickly adopted by Mallory.
Mallory describes Peggy as the “glue” of her animal family. Peggy’s lack of inhibition and desire to make new friends helped Mallory’s other cat and dog bond. Now, the three best friends play together, and Peggy often outruns the four-legged animals. Having only three legs has never been an obstacle for Peggy. She loves to be the center of attention and enjoys receiving hours of affection on anyone’s lap.
Peggy has been a lesson to her new family in courage and resilience, demonstrating that even through the toughest of circumstances, you can still have a warm heart and a caring spirit.
