Cleveland Success Story
December 2010 marked Cleveland Animal Protective League’s (CAPL) first ever Super Adopt-a-thon, “Empty the Cages.” The two-day event resulted in the adoption of 137 cats, 46 dogs, two guinea pigs and a mouse in just 48 hours!
When you add the six cats adopted from the agency’s off-site locations, and the animals adopted on the day before the event by people who wanted to “beat the rush,” CAPL surpassed its goal of 200 adoptions! Frickity, the only dog left on Sunday night, was adopted on Monday— so the dog adoption kennels were truly emptied!
2010 Highlights
- In 2010, the Cleveland partners adopted out 5,260 animals, up from 5,077 in 2009, thanks in large part to increased in-partner transfers throughout the year.
- With the community’s greater focus on matching lost and found reports with dogs coming into the Cleveland Division of Animal Control Services, cases of lost animals returned to their families increased to 719 animals in 2010.
