Tofu
No Substitute

This Happy Tail comes from Kelly D.
My boyfriend, Ryan, enrolled us in the foster parenting program with the ASPCA. Out of sheer excitement, we reached out a few times to see if any dogs were in need of a home, but it wasn't until November 30, 2011, that he received an email with the subject line "Tofu is Seeking a Love Match," and oh, how true it was.
Tofu was suffering from a potentially fatal condition that he had picked up prior to coming to the ASPCA. He was in need of a temporary home over the holidays with the hope that he would regain his health and strength and could eventually be adopted. We answered the email and headed in that Saturday, December 2, to learn more about Tofu's illness and how to care for him, and to prove we were up to the task.
We were there for close to two hours before meeting Tofu, and when he first came running around the corner of the waiting room, I think we both fell in love. He was just a tiny little thing and wasn't exactly sure what to make of us, but he jumped right into our arms for a hug and a sniff. Tofu did need lots of love, but he has given it back tenfold. Originally mostly white and barely there, Tofu's coat is now brown and white, thick and shiny. He finally received a clean bill of health, and officially became a part of our family, on March 9, 2012.
Tofu has brought more joy and love into our lives than we ever could have imagined possible. He puts a smile on our faces every morning. It's hard to be in a bad mood with the little guy wagging up to you for a morning snuggle. He wakes up and runs from the foot of the bed to the pillows to greet us, so happy to start the day with his new family. He is truly one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met and has made our house a home.
