What Is the $100K Challenge?
The ASPCA launched a national competition in 2010 to inspire animal shelters—and those who support them—to go above and beyond to save more animals. The goal was to help shelters to find new ways to increase pet adoption, reunite lost pets with their families and decrease euthanasia rates nationwide. Sadly, five to seven million companion animals enter animal shelters every year, and roughly three to four million are euthanized due to a lack of space or resources.
The Challenge seeks to make a real dent in those numbers. That first year, it was a hit: Shelters engaged in a little friendly rivalry and saved thousands of animals along the way. We repeated it all over again in 2011, and this year, for the third year in a row, the Challenge is back, bigger and better than ever. We’re teaming up with television star and philanthropist Rachael Ray to offer more than $500,000 in prizes. Check out some of this year’s grant awards up for grabs!
