Senior Vice President, Animal Health Services

Job Summary:

To provide leadership to Animal Health Services teams including the Animal Poison Control Center, Spay/Neuter Operations, and Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital. Providing guidance on strategic development and alignment with the long-range ASPCA goals. Provide organizational leadership in the area of animal health and welfare.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in the field of animal health and welfare
  • Provide strategic and budget oversight consistent with ASPCA outcomes/goals
  • Participate in long- and short-term strategic development of the ASPCA
  • Promote and facilitate development of internal leaders and experts
  • Collaborate with other program and infrastructure departments and external groups
  • Track departmental success through objective metrics and subjective evaluations
  • Integrate programs to optimize services, manage costs, and maximize impact
  • Develop medical record processes designed to improve services and efficiencies
  • Collect/analyze animal welfare/program data for public/professional consumption
  • Negotiate program specific contracts designed to generate program supporting income
  • Develop communication processes, gather input and gain consensus when appropriate
  • Perform annual performance reviews and recommend salaries and promotions
  • Develop key influencer relationships (veterinary, government, corporate, animal welfare)
  • Provide Communications department with data and experts to support media initiatives
  • Manage staff located in Urbana, NYC and remote locations
  • Promote a professional/respectful work environment with a focus on staff satisfaction
  • Serve the ASPCA as needed

Education:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree desired
  • Veterinary board-certification/expert status in a relevant field beneficial
  • MBA or extensive business and leadership training or experience required

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7–10 years as a leader in an animal welfare/health organization
  • Experience in marketing and corporate relations
  • Experience working with unions beneficial

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Must understand information management and telephone/contact systems
  • Must be skilled in routine software and computer use and data management
  • Solid knowledge of the animal welfare/health industry
  • Ability to develop business strategies in line with the objectives of the organization
  • Must bridge diverse areas of expertise: medicine/surgery, toxicology, behavior, research, business strategy, and marketing.

Skills Requirements

  • Leadership and staff development skills are key
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills/data management
  • Understanding organizational structures, teamwork and financing
  • Understanding of the animal welfare and veterinary medical industries

Training Requirements

  • Media training required
  • Leadership training required

The candidate must work within a team context. Interpersonal skills are critical to relate with peers and colleagues and seek common ground when conflict arises. Effective communication and time management skills are required. Leadership qualities and self motivation are essential.
